Polypropylene (PP) plates are highly prone to accumulate static electricity due to their strong insulating properties and high surface resistance (typically >10¹⁵Ω), which may lead to dust attraction, electric shock risks, and even fires in flammable environments. The following are systematic solutions to address static electricity issues:
1. Surface anti-static treatment
(1) Spraying anti-static agent
Method: Apply water-based or solvent-based antistatic spray (such as alkyl sulfonates, quaternary ammonium salts) evenly onto the surface of PP.
Effect: The surface resistance can be reduced to 10⁸~10¹⁰Ω, with an effective period of 1~3 months (regular reapplication is required).
Application Scenario: A temporary solution, suitable for clean room equipment covers and electronic packaging trays.
(2) Wipe with anti-static liquid
Operation: Dip a lint-free cloth in an antistatic liquid (such as 3M Novec) and wipe the surface to form a conductive film.
Advantages: Easy to operate, low cost (approximately 0.5 yuan per square decimeter).
Precautions
Avoid using alcohol to clean PP boards, as it can exacerbate the generation of static electricity.
Antistatic agents may affect subsequent printing or bonding, so compatibility testing is required in advance.
In flammable environments such as petroleum and chemical industries, the electrostatic voltage needs to be controlled at less than 100V (requiring professional inspection).
By combining material modification and physical measures, the electrostatic risk of PP boards can be significantly reduced. For critical applications (such as electronic workshops), it is recommended to control the surface resistance within the range of 10⁶~10⁹Ω (according to the IEC 61340-5-1 standard).
