PP rod (polypropylene rod) is a plastic rod made of polypropylene, featuring the following core product characteristics:


1. Physical properties


Lightweight, with a density of approximately 0.90-0.91 g/cm³, it is lighter than most plastics such as PVC and PE.


Temperature resistance: It can withstand short-term temperatures up to 100-120℃, and for long-term use, the temperature range is approximately -10℃ to 80℃. It tends to become brittle at low temperatures.


Color and specifications: Commonly available in white, beige, or transparent, with customization options; typically with a diameter ranging from 5-200mm and a length of 1-3 meters.


2. Chemical properties


Corrosion resistance: Stable to acids, alkalis, salts, and most solvents (such as dilute sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, and alcohol), but not resistant to strong oxidizing acids (concentrated sulfuric acid, nitric acid).


Non-toxic and environmentally friendly: Compliant with food-grade standards (FDA/ROHS), suitable for food processing and medical devices.


Low water absorption: Water absorption rate < 0.01%, stable performance in humid environments.


3. Mechanical properties**


High strength: Excellent resistance to bending and stress cracking, but lower hardness than metal.


Wear resistance: With a smooth surface and low friction coefficient, it is suitable for making components such as guide rails and gears.


Insulation: Excellent electrical insulation, high resistivity, suitable for electronic components.


4. Processing performance


Easy to process: It can undergo secondary processes such as cutting, drilling, turning, and welding (either hot plate welding or ultrasonic welding).


Thermoformability: It can be softened and shaped when heated to 160-170℃, and maintains stability after cooling.


5. Application areas


Industry: lining of chemical storage tanks, valve seals, and conveying pipelines.


Food and medical: food machinery components, pharmaceutical packaging containers.


Electronics: Insulating supports, cable sheaths.


Daily necessities: furniture accessories, stationery, toys.


6. Limitations


Poor weather resistance: Long-term exposure to ultraviolet light will cause aging, and anti-UV additives need to be added.


Low-temperature brittleness: It is prone to cracking at temperatures below -10℃, making it unsuitable for use in cold environments.


Strength limitations: The load-bearing capacity is weaker than that of metals or engineering plastics (such as PA and POM).




PP rods, with lightweight, corrosion resistance, food-grade safety, and ease of processing as their core advantages, are suitable for light loads, moderate temperatures, and corrosive environments. However, attention should be paid to their temperature and weather resistance limitations. When selecting, it is necessary to weigh the performance requirements according to the specific scenario.
